Oz: Artist covers Hillary Clinton's near-naked mural after authorities object

Melbourne, Aug 4: A street artist here who faced warnings from the local authorities over a provocative mural of US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton covered the painting by spraying a burqa on it.

The council took up the issue after the mural, showing the Democratic nominee wearing a revealing swimsuit printed with American flag colours with $100 notes tucked into it, annoyed the local residents. The painting was made on the side of a scooter shop in Footscray near Melbourne. [Hillary leads Trump in new national poll]

The council described the mural as "offensive" because it violated its stand on gender equity.

The body also threatened to fine and prosecute the owner of the building if the mural had not been removed. [New York Post publishes naked photographs of Melania Trump]

Earlier, Lushsux, the painter who made the mural, had his Instagram account suspended temporarily after he had posted his artwork on it. In protest, Lushlux added those dollar notes in the swimsuit.

But the artist had to backtrack in the face of the civic threat and eventually covered the painting with a burqa.

This is not the first time that Lushsux has made full use of artistic freedom while making murals of top leaders. In the past, he has also made paintings of American Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his wife Melania with little clothes on.
