After Doklam standoff, China sings praises of India's medical system

A few hours after the Doklam standoff was resolved, China decided to sing praises about Indian medicines. The Global Times reported a story called "Chinese patients head to India for latest medicines after domestic crackdown."

The article praised India's medical services. It said that Chinese patients in third and fourth tier cities seek medical treatment in India because of the high-quality services in private hospitals.

China sets strict barriers and hefty prices on imported drugs, India has long been known as the "pharmacy of the developing world" largely because the Indian government has granted compulsory licenses for expensive drugs so Indian manufacturers can produce these drugs without fear of being prosecuted under patent law.

"Apart from cheaper and more advanced drugs, India is also known for the quality of services in its private hospitals," the article also read.

Amidst the Doklam standoff, the Global Times was the most aggressive in its approach. It warned of war, put out hard hitting articles to threaten India among other things. However China had always maintained that the articles in the media were not reflective of the country's official views.
