The attacker, known by the initials Z.S., was arrested and a probe was launced into the incident. Interior Minister Nebojsa Stefanovic, who visited the spot later, said a local TV channel that the weapon was illegal and suspected jealousy to be the motive behind the crime.

In June, 49 people were killed in Orlando in the US after a 29-year-old man opened fire in a gay nightclub before getting neutralised. The incident raised questions over the notorious gun culture in the country although debates were also held on how to protect Americans from the fangs of terrorism since the killer was reported to be a Jihadi sympathiser.
