The arrested appeared in a court on Monday, July 16, and was denied a bond, the report said. The Allen County Prosecuting Attorney's Office was given time till Thursday, July 19, to file formal charges against Miller, Fort Wayne's News-Sentinel newspaper said.

On Sunday, July 15, Miller confessed to the 1988 assault and murder after investigators linked evidence that was found on April's body and in a series of notes that were sent after the killing to the DNA samples that were found from used condoms in the man's trash bin, according to court documents, news.com.au reported.

Miller admitted of having abducted, choked and raped the child on April 1, 1988, Fox News cited Indianapolis Star of having reported, mentioning court documents.

The latest case is the second this year after the arrest of Joseph James DeAngelo in California in April. A former police officer, the man is suspected of being the "Golden State Killer" who carried out a series of rapes and murders in California in the 1970s and 1980s. He was linked to over 175 crimes committed against children and adults between 1976 and 1986.
