ISIS claims responsibility for Kabul Military Academy attack
A suicide bomber first attacked the army unit responsible for providing security for the military academy, and the attack was followed by a gunbattle in which the soldiers were wounded, said Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the Afghan defence ministry.
Kabul resident Mohammad Ehsan said the explosions began near the city's Marshal Fahim national defense university at around 5am (0030 GMT) on Monday morning and lasted for at least an hour. Smaller blasts at less frequent intervals could still be heard, he said.

Some of the attackers at the Marshal Fahim Military Academy have been killed, an Afghan security source said, adding the gunmen had not managed to enter the academy.
Kabul police spokesman Basir Mujahid told AFP there had been rocket and gunfire but now "it is calm".
Marshal Fahim National Defence University houses three important military educational and training facilities - National Military Academy of Afghanistan (NMAA), the Afghan National Army Officer Academy (ANAOA), and the Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Academy.
The attack comes just days after a massive bomb hidden inside an ambulance killed more than 100 people and injured over 230 in Kabul. The Afghanistan government had declared a day of national mourning after the attack.
