91 dead after 7.0 earthquake hits Indonesia's Lombok island
Lombok, Aug 6: At least 91 people have been killed after a powerful earthquake measuring 7 on the Richter scale struck the Indonesian island of Lombok. Also, hundreds of people have been wounded by Sunday's quake, disaster management officials said, BBC reported.
Rescuers searched for survivors in the rubble of houses, mosques and schools that were among the thousands of buildings destroyed in the disaster that struck on Sunday evening
The shock was also felt in Bali and some parts of East Java. Ministry of Tourism of Indonesia has been coordinating with the local government of West Nusa Tenggara, tourism stakeholders and disaster management boards and hereby stated that no tourist has been injured or impacted by the quake.
National disaster agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho told reporters some 200 "domestic and foreign" tourists had already been taken off the islands. "There are 700 more tourists still waiting to be evacuated," PTI quoted Sutopo Purwo Nugroho as saying.
