Melbourne, May 1: Over 100 people, including 66 Australians, have been evacuated from Nepal by the Royal Australian Air force flight which also delivered humanitarian aid to the quake-hit country.

According to media reports, the flights of two RAAF C-17 Globemaster transport planes were sent to evacuate stranded Australians and deliver 15 tonnes of supplies of tarpaulins, medicines, blankets and water purification tablets. [Nepal earthquake 2015: Full Coverage]

The flights carried a mix of trekkers, tourists and volunteer wo

rkers with reports of many more Australians still stranded in the trekking hub of Lukla near Mount Everest. ABC said that most of the evacuees had been camped out at the Australian embassy since the quake.

Australian ambassador to Nepal Glenn White has been tasked with leading the effort to account for the hundreds of Australians who were in Nepal when the quake hit.

"We've located most Australians, or at least we think they're safe," he said.

Up to 20 of the Australian citizens registered with the government as being in Nepal are still unaccounted for, the report said.

The 7.9-magnitude quake killed nearly 6,200 people, and injured at least 14,000. The UN says more than eight million people have been affected by the quake.
