President rule in Maharashtra: What you need to know
Mumbai, Nov 13: Maharashtra was placed under President's Rule on Tuesday after the BJP, Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) - could produce enough numbers to stake claim to power even 20 days after the October 24 state election results.
This is the first instance in the 59-year-old history of the state when Article 356 has been invoked due to the inability of political parties to form a government after an assembly election. Overall, this is the third time that Maharashtra has come under the central rule. The present-day Maharashtra came into existence on May 1, 1960.
