Most powerful and worst passports of 2019 revealed
New Delhi: The country with the world's most powerful passport in 2019 is ... Japan. Again. That's the view of the Henley Passport Index, which periodically measures the access each country's travel document affords. The Henley Passport Index is based on data provided by the International Air Transport Authority (IATA) and covers 199 passports and 227 travel destinations. It is updated in real time throughout the year, as and when visa policy changes come into effect.
Japan retains its top spot as the world's most travel-friendly passport thanks to the document's access to 190 countries.
The Indian passport has been ranked as the 79th most powerful in the world. According to the ranking by Henley and Partners Passport Index, Afghanistan and Iraq were the worst at 104 while Pakistan came close to them at 102. Pakistani passport allows one access to 33 countries.
