Raipur, May 9: If you are tired of the buzz surrounding the blockbuster wedding of Bollywood diva Sonam Kapoor with businessman Anand Ahuja, then welcome to the "unique" marriage of Kaliya and Sundari in Chhattisgarh.

Well, Kaliya and Sundari are not your regular groom and bride, but a rooster and a hen belonging to the Kadaknath breed. The wedding was solemnised by the locals recently in Dantewada's Hiranar to spread awareness about the benefits of rearing of the Kadaknath breed-- black-feathered chickens.

"Chhattisgarh: A rooster 'Kaliya' & a hen 'Sundari' of Kadaknath breed were married off in Dantewada's Hiranar yesterday. Locals say 'The wedding took place with the motive to spread awareness about Kadaknath rearing & its benefits'," tweeted ANI.

As a part of the wedding, invitation cards were printed, the mandap (the wedding venue) was decorated, music was played and a grand feast was also hosted for the invitees.

The "bizarre" wedding, which has created a lot of buzz in the poultry-breeding circle of the state, has come at a time after Chhattisgarh has recently lost the "battle" for Geographical Indication (GI) tag of "its own Kadaknath chicken" to Madhya Pradesh.

"We perform weddings of frogs too but the thought of marrying our own Kadaknath dawned when the extinction of female hens came under control and they returned to their normal population. We felt it should be celebrated. It's also an initiative to spread awareness among people and inbuilt a feeling of belongingness towards Kadaknath hens," Ludru Nag, district president of Dantewada poultry farms and also family of groom Kaliya, told The Times of India.

Now, the locals of the area are hoping that after the wedding more and more people will rear Kadaknath chickens and earn a great deal of moolah out of it. After all, Kadaknath chickens are very popular among the meat-loving people for its "special taste". And, yes, they are pricey too. A kilogram of Kadaknath chicken sells at Rs 500 in the market. We must say quite a pricey wedding of Kaliya and Sundari.
