Yamuna river crosses danger level, over 1000 families evacuated

Central Water Commission Official Flood Forecast alerted that River Yamuna at Delhi Railway Bridge is now flowing in 'SEVERE SITUATION' on Monday morning. The water level has reached 205.62m.

The CWC tweeted the alert, "River Yamuna at Delhi Railway Bridge in North dist #Delhi is now flowing in SEVERE SITUATION at 06hrs today, its WL205.62m with rising trend its DL204.83m.CWC ND."

More than 1,000 families evacuated till Sunday evening, the danger mark has crossed 204.83 meters in the national capital.

Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar conducted an aerial survey of Hathnikund barrage on Sunday. He has instructed the concerned officers to conduct a survey of flood-affected areas. Farmers who have lost their crops to the flood will be provided compensation by the state govt.

Also, the CM held an emergency meeting with senior officials in the wake of rising level of Yamuna river due to heavy rains in the catchment areas and directed them to stay alert to deal with any untoward situation.

Khattar sought information on the water level from the deputy commissioners of Yamunanagar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonipat and Palwal, and other officers through video-conferencing. He also reviewed the arrangements made by them, an official spokesperson told PTI.

Haryana had released around six lakh cusecs of water from which the officials expect the river to rise to 206.60 meters on July 31. The water discharged from Hathnikund barrage, normally reaches Delhi in 72 hours.
