Yahoo executive sues female boss for sexual harassment
The accused is Maria Zhang, a senior director of the engineering section at Yahoo Mobile and the victim is Nan Shi, who was a principal software engineer since February 2013. The complainant claims that her former boss forced her to have oral and digital sex with her on several occassions in Sunnyvale, California. The boss is also reported to have told her that she would have a "bright future" if she was to have sex with her.
Seeking monetary and punitive damages, Shi accuses Zhang of unfairly ranking her in her reviews for the second and third quarter of 2013.
However, the company stands by its senior and "hardworking" executive, saying that Zhang founded her own mobile company Alike, which was acquired by Yahoo. ""There is absolutely no basis or truth to the allegations against Maria Zhang. Maria is an exemplary Yahoo executive and we intend to fight vigorously to clear her name," said a Yahoo excutive.
The lawsuit also alleges that the company's human resource department did not act on Shi's complaint, but put her on unpaid leave, instead. She was terminated from her position in the company later.
