‘Would I have become MP at young age if my surname wasn't Gandhi': Varun Gandhi
Varun Gandhi is the cousin of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.
Asserting that everyone must get equal opportunities, BJP MP Varun Gandhi has asked whether he would have become an MP at the age of 29-years if his surname was not 'Gandhi'.
"I am Feroze Varun Gandhi. If my surname was not Gandhi would have I become an MP at the age of 29 years? Want to see an India where it doesn't matter if I was Varun Dutta or Varun Ghosh or Varun Khan. All must get equal opportunities," news agency ANI quoted Varun as saying.
Varun Gandhi is the cousin of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. Varun's mother Maneka Gandhi is the widow of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's elder brother Sanjay Gandhi, who died in a plane crash. Maneka parted ways with Indira Gandhi after her husband's death.
Varun is not new to making remarks that make headlines. He had last month called the Election Commission a "toothless tiger". He also said political parties spend a lot on the poll campaign, denying opportunity to people from a humble background to contest elections.
