World famous bariatric surgeon adopts Pune boy with rare genetic disorder

Pune, Sep 22: Pune-based couple Amol and Rupali were confused over the abnormal health condition of their 10 month-old-son Shreejit.

He gained 17 kgs in a span of ten months and has a height of 75.5 cms.

It was then confirmed that Sheerjit is the second child in the country to have detected with leptin gene mutation, a rare genetic disorder. This rare genetic disorder causes obesity.

To much relief of Amol and Rupali, bariatric surgeon Dr Shashank Shah has decided to treat Sheerjit. He has also decided to help the baby for the next five years.

The doctors are trying to obtain leptin injection from NHS, UK as the treatment for the child.

The baby consumes food that equals to an adult due to leptin gene mutation/deficiency. Because of this medical condition the patient craves for more food.

Sheerjit is not able to sit or stand, he is not able to walk without support.

Dr Shah has decide not to operate the baby and he is putting efforts to get the best treatment.

Dr Shah has more than 3,000 bariatric surgeries to his credit and has operated on both a seven and half year old child and also the heaviest British person (310 kg).
