New Delhi, Aug 10: Ahead of the Triple Talaq Bill's Rajya Sabha test, Congress leader Hussain Dalwai on Friday said that society needs to change as a whole as women are treated unfairly in all communities.

Dalwai's remark comes at a time when all eyes are on the Congress over the Triple Talaq Bill which the Rahul Gadhi-led party had opposed in the previous session of Parliament.

"Women treated unfairly in all communities, not just Muslims, even Hindus, Christians, Sikhs etc. In every society, there is male domination. Even Shree Ram Chandra ji once left Sita ji after doubting her. So we need to change as a whole," Hussain Dalwai told news agency ANI.

The BJP-led government would hope that the tweaks in the bill cleared by the cabinet on Thursday would persuade some non-NDA parties, who had concerns about the misuse of the law, to support the bill in its new form.

The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved amendments in the Triple Talaq Bill. Under the amendments cleared, a magistrate will have powers to grant bail. The woman can approach the magistrate to seek subsistence allowance for herself and her minor children, and can also seek custody of her minor children from the magistrate who will take a final call on the matter.

Union Cabinet yesterday also approved inclusion of provisions that the complaint in such a case can only be filed by the victim (wife) or blood relations.

Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today urged Congress leader Sonia Gandhi to support the bill. He said if Congress does not support the 'Muslim Women Protection of Rights on Marriage Bill,' then Rahul Gandhi should not talk of gender justice, dignity and equality.
