Woman asks AIIMS doctors for dead hubby's sperm to conceive

New Delhi, July 11: One may not believe this, but it is true. Doctors of All India Institute Of Medical Science(AIIMS), Delhi have received an usual request from a woman. Reportedly a widow of a young man has asked for her dead husband's sperms.

According to TOI report, woman whose husband recently died on the way to hospital, wants doctors to retrieve sperms of her husband.

As the woman doesn't have any child, so she wants to conceive with the help of her husband's retrieved sperms. Reports say that her in-laws have also supported the demand.

TOI report says that doctors have rejected the request saying that in our country there are no clear guidelines on postmortem sperm retrieval (PMSR).

Though AIIMS doctors have rejected the demand, they want clear cut policy on the issue so that in near future they don't have to face such predicament again.

One of the doctors was quoted as saying, "Time has come to have guidelines about the procedures to collect sperm posthumously, to preserve them and to effectively use them with maximum benefits to the individual as well as society".

Doctors says that whole process of sperms retrieval can be done within 5 minutes but there are lots of legal and ethical issues involved with the process. Doctors believe that dead bodies' sperm survive for a day and it can be retrieved within that span of time.
