Will Rahul Gandhi become Congress chief? Not as yet
The Congress would have to complete the process before the year end.
Rahul Gandhi's elevation as the president of the Congress party has been put on hold yet again. First and foremost there is no indication what so ever about a possible Congress Working Committee meeting at which the elevation was to take place.
The Congress feels that the elevation needed to be put on hold in view of the ongoing election process in Gujarat. The party feels that if a CWC were to take place now, then it would divert the attention of party workers from the Gujarat campaign.
The Congress would have to complete the process before the year end. It has committed to the Election Commission that the organisational polls would be held before the end of 2017.
For now although there is no indication that the elevation would take place, some within the Congress still feel that a decision to this effect must be taken before the results for Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are out. If the results are bad for the Congress, then the party will find itself in a difficult situation to elevate Rahul Gandhi.
