New Delhi, July 20: In a no holds barred attack on the Narendra Modi government, Congress president, Rahul Gandhi took a swipe at Nirmala Sitharaman and said that she lied about the Rafale deal. He also went on to say that Modi could not look him in the eye because he knows he cannot be truthful.
Sitharaman however said that the details of the deal could not be revealed as India has a secrecy pact with the French government. However Rahul Gandhi hit back at her and said that the fact is that the French President had personally told him that there was no secret pact.
PM can't look me in the eye, says Rahul Gandhi: Highlights
The contract was withdrawn from HAL and given to a gentleman who benefitted around Rs 40,000 crore. The Defence Minister has clearly not spoken the truth. The PM must explain if the Cabinet Committee on security benefited from this deed. Why has a businessman benefitted, he also said while speaking during the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha.
He then looked at the PM directly and said, " Modi is smiling, but there is a touch of nervousness in this gentleman and he is looking away from me. He cannot look me in the eye and I understand that. The PM cannot be truthful and I can understand that, he said as the House erupted in laughter.
