Lord Ram statue not ok, but Mayawati’s fine?
The Shia Board is one of the parties in the appeals pending in the Supreme Court.
Chairman of Shia Waqf Board on Tuesday slammed opposition parties opposing Lord Ram's grand statue proposed by CM Yogi Adityanath.
W. Rizvi, Chairman of Shia Waqf, toeing BJP's line said: "Taj Mahal can be symbol of love but not of worship,", he went on say that " apart from 1-2 most Mughals were 'aiyaash' (extravagant), Muslims don't consider them idols."
He recalled political parties silence when Mayawati raised her own statue. "No one opposed when Mayawati built her own statues, don't understand why is there an issue over making Ram statue?"
Rizvi further said, "Sad that Ram statue construction is being opposed, it's a good step as Ayodhya is center of Hindu heritage."
Earlier, he welcomed the Adityanath government's move to build a 100-metre-high statue of Lord Ram on the banks of Saryu river in Ayodhya, claiming the land actually belonged to Shias and not the Sunni Waqf Board.
