Very soon, those in same-sex relationships will have to face rejection of surrogacy requests. The Surrogacy (regulation) Bill of 2016 will soon become an act as a result of which commercial surrogacy will be banned in India. Director Karan Johar became a dad to twins through surrogacy last month.

The bill not only bans commercial surrogacy, but also homosexual couples, single individuals and those in live-in-relationships from having children through surrogacy of the rent-a-womb method.

The bill states that only heterosexual couples married for a minimum of five years with proven medial issues are eligible for surrogacy. After the bill was introduced, several clinics have stopped accepting surrogacy requests. Currently, surrogacy is not illegal, but once the bill becomes an act, it will be.

It has been noticed in several cases that only the rich can afford surrogacy. There have also been several cases where parents have abandoned the babies after making surrogacy requests. Many in the medical fraternity have expressed their displeasure over surrogacy requests.
