Grappling with a "serious" hunger problem, India has been ranked 100th among 119 developing countries on the Global Hunger Index (GHI), leaving behind North Korea, Bangladesh and even the besieged Iraq, but ahead of Pakistan, according to a report. India's wasting rate has not substantially improved over the last 25 years, even though the child stunting rate has improved over this period.

Over 20 crore Indians sleep hungry. 10 million people die every year of chronic hunger and hunger-related diseases. Only eight percent are the victims of hunger caused by high-profile earthquakes, floods, droughts and wars.
