Why English is so important for Indians? Hilarious music video ‘Jai Englis Mata’ has the answer

By oneindia staff

New Delhi, July 28: The Britons (Angrez) have left India long, but have ensured that their former colony does not forget English easily. Yes, the biggest legacy that the British Empire has left behind for its former subjects is English.

It is the typical grouse of almost all those who struggle with the foreign language in the country. Because in today's India, if you have to get a job, get a girlfriend or simply impress someone, you have to speak English minus the Indian accent and the rest as they is history.

jai englis mata

The "anti-English" sentiment among a section of the country has its valid reasons. Our love for English is not only making us neglect our local languages and dialects, but has created a new breed that possesses half-baked knowledge in English.

Perturbed by the fuss over English, a comedy group has come up with a song--Jai Englis Mata (Hail Mother English)--an ode to the much-sought after language. The song, in Hindi, is a parody number inspired by the Hindu devotional song, Om Jai Jagdish Hare.

The satirical song, the video of which you can watch below, will surely crack you up.

The funny music video has also attracted the attention of senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, who has a role to play in it. He has tweeted about the song.

Now, enjoy the song and know why Tharoor features in the video:
