Barring his legal team, Dinakaran had no one to accompany him -- even the MLAs he claimed were with him were missing.

For T T V Dinakaran, nephew of Sasikala the last few days have been about set-backs. First the R K Nagar by-election was countermanded, then came the ECI bribery case followed by him being ousted from the party. After the ouster, Dinakaran put up a brave front and even claimed the support of several MLAs. However, by Wednesday, he had mellowed down and said that he did not want to be the one breaking the party.

Was it the ECI bribery case or the decision of the economic offences court which refused to adjourn the case against him that made him go soft? In all likelihood, it appears that the softening of stance was because of the thin attendance at court.

When he arrived at the court, he had no one to accompany him barring his legal team. The MLAs he claimed were with him were missing.

Dinakaran had claimed in the morning that he had the support of a majority of the MLAs, but that was not the case when arrived at court. The attendance was wafer-thin and it appears that Dinakaran may have realised that he is not the boss. The fact that he is Sasikala's nephew also did not help him. The MLAs of the AIADMK who have decided to unite had clearly no sympathy for Dinakaran against whom there was anger brewing in the party. One of the pre-conditions for the merger of the OPS and EPS factions was that Dinakaran and Sasikala be kept away from the party.
