Bangalore, June 18: Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi has already resigned and now the sword is hanging on other state governors who were appointed by Congress-led UPA government. All hullabaloos started when the Centre asked some of the Governors appointed during UPA regime to quit in the wake of change of government.

Though nothing has been officially disclosed, it is understood that some of the Governors including K Shankaranarayanan of Maharashtra, M K Narayanan (West Bengal), Sheila Dikshit (Kerala) and Kamla Beniwal (Gujarat) have been told to step down.

Igniting the controversy, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh commented that if he were in their place he would have quit. BJP senior leader Subramanian Swamy also claimed, "These governors should have themselves quit. All of these people are appointed because they sat in Sonia Gandhi's durbar and propositioned her. There is no question of any of them coming in on merit."

Citing all these comments by BJP leaders and ministers, critics began lashing out at the BJP-led NDA government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government has been facing the flak as it has been accused of following the politics of vendetta.

However, many other experts claimed there was nothing wrong if a few governors, who have corruption allegations against them, quit.

Sheila Dikshit, now the governor of Kerala, was the chief minister of Delhi. Congress experienced one of the most humiliated defeat under her leadership during the last assembly election in the national capital in Dec 2013.

Delhi earned the ‘rape capital' tag under Sheila Dikshit and the CM was also accused of getting money during Commonwealth Games scam which was held in Delhi in 2010.

Uttar Pradesh governor, who has already resigned, faced tremendous criticism when he did not utter a single word against UP CM Akhilesh Yadav under whose rule law and order has failed completely in the state, women are being raped daily.

Lately, investigative agency - Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had approached President Pranab Mukherjee to seek permission to record statements of West Bengal and Goa governors -- MK Narayanan and BV Wanchoo respectively in connection with the probe into alleged kickbacks in the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper deal.

The statements of Narayanan and Wanchoo were considered necessary as they were national security advisor and Special Protection Group chief respectively. CBI had sought permission to record their statement as part of its probe into alleged Rs 360 crore bribe in the deal that was scrapped by the government recently.

Now, when UPA-appointed Governors is concerned, it was expected that Congress and opposition would raise questions. But here remains a question -- do they really deserve to hold the dignified post of Governor despite of having such grave allegations against them?
