What was Venkaiah Naidu's one unfulfilled wish?
Being appointed as the Vice President candidate and then filing his nomination meant he had to give up active politics. However for Venkaiah Naidu, the NDA's VP candidate, it was not an easy decision to make.
He had one unfulfilled wish and he explained it in detail. After filing his nomination, he said that he had one wish. I wanted to see Prime Minister Narendra Modi come back to power again in 2019. After that I had decided to call it a day and engage in social work, an emotional Naidu said.
Destiny had other things in store for me. After a discussion on the VP candidate, I finally agreed. I have now withdrawn myself from the party and do not belong to BJP now, he also said.
Office of Vice President is a different profile, has its functional norms. I hope I will be able to do justice, Naidu said. He also thanked Modi and Amit Shah for giving him the opportunity.
Naidu appears to be heading for a comfortable win in the VP polls. The numbers in both Houses of Parliament are stacked up in favour of the BJP. Naidu takes on the UPA's Gopalkrishna Gandhi in the VP poll to be held on August 5.
