What got Modi and Jaitley laughing in Parliament
Speaking after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Samajwadi Party M P Naresh Agrawal joked about the rumour that most Modi ministers did not know about the November 8 surprise announcement.
New Delhi, Nov 24: During a debate on demonetisation in the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley were seen chuckling when there was a fierce attack by the opposition on the decision to ban Rs 500 and 1,000 rupee note.
Speaking after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Samajwadi Party M P Naresh Agrawal joked about the rumour that most Modi ministers did not know about the November 8 surprise announcement. He said,''There are those who say the Modi did not take even Arun Jaitley into confidence. If Arunji had known, he would have whispered about it in my ears. He knows me".
After a while, Modi was seen smiling again when Naresh Agrawal assured Modi that he will be safe in Uttar Pradesh. "Don't worry for your safety at least in Uttar Pradesh," he said.
Earlier, in an emotional speech given after announcing the ban on high-denomination notes, Modi had said forces opposed to the demonetisation move "may not let me live".
