The re-polling was underway at booth number 79 and 80 in Ambikanagar of West Bengal's Jalpaiguri on Sunday. Heavy police force has been deployed at the booth.

The Election Commission on Thursday had ordered re-polling at Part number 79/80 of Fulbari-1 in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri District. Counting agent of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Doli Sutradhar had alleged that he was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters, who also looted ballot papers at the counting room.

Meanwhile, criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed FIR against Russell Aziz, son of CPI-M MP Mohammad Selim, for circulating fake news on social media about death of a Presiding officer inside a polling station, to create panic on the day of West Bengal Panchayat Elections that held on 14 May.

The panchayat elections in West Bengal saw huge-scale violence this time. Clashes between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers resulted in the death of at least 20 people and injuries to 50 others on the polling day -- May 14.

Following the violence, re-polling was conducted in 568 booths across the state on May 16.

On May 14, five crore people voted to select their representatives for 621 zilla parishads, 6,000 panchayat samitis, and nearly 31,000 gram panchayats.
