Sitharaman said to news agency ANI, "We never wanted a 3rd party or international fora's interference in our affairs. On a completely domestic matter, she has chosen to ask for UN. Does she have no faith in institutions of India? "

Union minister G Kishan Reddy also showed his anger over the statement of Banerjee. He said, "Mamata Benerjee is irresponsibly seeking the involvement of the United Nations. This is inviting foreign countries to interfere in our affairs."

On Thursday, Mamata Banerjee said that there must be an impartial organisation like the United Nations or Human Rights Commission form a committee to see how many people are in favour or against CAA.

Banerjee led a rally opposing the implementation of CAA with thousands of partymen said, "Let there be an impartial organisation like United Nations or National Human Rights Commission form a committee to see how many people are in favour or against."
"Suddenly after 73 years of independence, we have to prove that we are Indian citizens. Where was BJP's head and tail at that time, BJP is dividing the country. Don't stop your protest because we have to get CAA revoked", she added.
