Was Jayalalithaa brought dead to hospital? PIL by IRS officer suggests so

According to a petition filed at the Madras High Court, Jayalalithaa actually died months before she was officially declared dead by Apollo Hospitals.

Chennai, April 18: Since the time former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa died in December last year, several public interest litigations have been filed in the Madras High Court demanding probe into the circumstances leading to the death of the former supremo of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.

According to a latest PIL filed by P Balamurugan, a serving Indian revenue service officer, in the Madras HC, the former CM was either brought dead to Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, or died within two days after her admission to the hospital, reported Times of India.

Amma, as Jayalalithaa was popularly known among her supporters, was admitted to the hospital on September 22 last year and was declared dead by the hospital authorities on December 5 last year.

On Monday, Balamurugan moved the Madras HC seeking formation of a panel headed by Indian administrative service officer U Sagayam to probe into the circumstances leading to the death of Jayalalithaa.

The petition filed by Balamurugan came up for admission before the bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar. The bench tagged the officer's plea with similar other petitions and posted the matter for further hearing on July 4.

The petitioner submitted that TN Governor CH Vidyasagar Rao had visited Jayalalithaa at the hospital only 10 days after her admission that too after the opposition parties raked up the issue of her hospitalisation.

While Jayalalithaa was admitted on September 22 last year, Rao had visited the hospital only on October 2 and returned without actually meeting her, he submitted.

He had handed over a fruit basket to someone else and returned, only to issue a press statement that she was recovering well, he alleged.

The petitioner raised some more queries, including as to why Apollo Hospitals did not allow Jayalalithaa's niece Deepa Jayakumar to see her, why Jayalalithaa was not discharged after being cured of fever and why the hospital did not allow the former AIADMK supremo to go abroad for further treatment.

When the matter came up, Government Pleader MK Subramanian argued that the charges were baseless.
