The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday filed chargesheet against 490 accused in connection with the infamous Vyapam Scam in Madhya Pradesh.

 Shivraj Singh Chouhan

According to the sources, the chargesheet also sees no mention of current Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The CBI further states the allegations put forward by former chief minister Digvijaya Singh have no basis.

In February 2015, Digvijay Singh had claimed that he was in possession of a pen drive that purportedly contained the telephone number of Chouhan and his wife and alleged exchange of messages between the couple and some of the Vyapam scam accused.

The CBI has further said that there was no tampering with the evidence related to the scam, which involved irregularities in admissions and recruitments.

The Vyapam scam dates back to 2007, with investigations in the case starting after some details came to light in 2013. The scam came into light in 2013, with reports that bribes were being paid by those seeking admission to medical colleges. In exchange for kickbacks, those in the government were allowing imposters to take the admission exam.

The Supreme Court has ordered a CBI probe into the multi-crore cash-for-jobs scam in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board that has resulted in unexplained deaths of key accused and witnesses.
