Vismaya dowry case: Kerala Court convicts accused husband Kiran Kumar
Thiruvananthapuram, May 23: In Kerala, in a sensational dowry death case of Vismaya, her husband Kiran Kumar has been found guilty by the Kollam Additional Sessions Court. The verdict in the suicide and domestic violence case that shook Kerala for close to one year was pronounced today after a four-month-long trial.
The quantum of punishment will be announced tomorrow.
The Court noted that physical and mental torture the 22-year-old Vismaya sustained from her husband's house led to her suicide.
Vismaya, an Ayurveda medical student, was found hanging in the bathroom of her husband's house at Sasthamkotta in Kollam district on 21st of June last year. Kumar, who was booked for abetment of suicide and other charges in the case, had been in jail ever since his arrest on 22nd of June. Meanwhile, his bail plea was rejected.
In the wake of outrage over Vismaya's death, Kiran Kumar, who was an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector in the State Government was dismissed from service.
