Sandalwood mourns death of veteran Kannada actor-director Kashinath

    Veteran Kannada actor and director Kashinath passed away in a private hospital in Bengaluru on Thursday. The actor, suffering from Hodgkin's lymphoma, was admitted to Sri Shankar Cancer hospital two days ago.

    Kashinath, born in Koteshwar village in Kunadapura taluka, was known for his comedy movies with a touch of sarcasm. His films generally touched subjects which were often regarded as taboo in the Indian society and thus attracted the tag of being vulgar by some critics.

    Kashinatha's first directorial venture was Aparoopada Athithigalu in 1975. His movie Anubhava (1984) with himself and Umashree in lead roles, was a blockbuster.

    Noted actor Upendra, music director-actor V Manohar, director Sunil Kumar Desai worked under him. Kashinath produced 11 Kannada films, 1-Hindi, 1-Telugu.

    Kashinath also made many hit movies with Upendra as his assistant director. Upendra himself acknowledges Kashinath as his 'Guru' (Master) and considers working with Kashinath as 'Gurukula' (University).

    Recently, he had acted in multi-starrer 'Chowka' movie directed by Dwaarakeesh. His son Abhimanyu Kashinath is also an actor in Kannada film industry. He is survived by son Abhimanyu and daughter Amruthavarshini.

    Sandalwood artistes paid their tribute to the departed soul. Dr Shiv Rajkumar, Sudeep visited the house of the actor to pay their last respect.
