Venkaiah Naidu sworn in as India's 13th Vice President
The Vice-President elect Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu took oath as the next Vice-President of India on Friday at Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am. Naidu is the 13th Vice President of India. He is also the first BJP vice-president of India.

The oath taking ceremony was held at Rashtrapati Bhawan, which was attended by all Union ministers along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a number of dignitaries. Following the ceremony, the new vice-president also took charge as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
Former prime minister Manmohan Singh, BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani, other BJP leaders are also present at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Hamid Ansari, whose term as vice president ended on Thursday, greets Union ministers at the Durbar Hall, where Naidu took oath.
Earlier today, Naidu paid tribute to Deen Dayal Upadhaya at DDU Park. He also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel at Patel Chowk before taking oath as the Vice President of India.

In the vice-president election that was held in this month, Naidu got 516 votes and UPA's candidate Gopalkrishna Gandhi got 244 votes out of 760 valid votes. The polling percentage was high. The total polling percentage recorded was 98.21. 771 out of 785 votes were polled.
Naidu was born on born on July 1, 1949 at Chavatapelam, Andhra Pradesh. He did Bachelor's in politics and diplomatic studies from V R College, Nellore. Naidu has served as the Minister of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, Urban Development and Information and Broadcasting in the NDA Cabinet. Naidu has also been a member of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly twice and a Rajya Sabha MP for four terms.
The term of incumbent Vice-President Hamid Ansari, who held the position for two consecutive terms came to an end on August 10.
