US amends media note to Jammu and Kashmir

Minister of State, External Affairs, General V K Singh informed the Lok Sabha that the term has been changed.

After calling it Indian-administered Kashmir, the US has now changed the term to Jammu and Kashmir. In its order, the US while designating Syed Salahuddin a global terrorist had referred to J&K as Indian-administered Kashmir.

Minister of State, External Affairs, General V K Singh informed the Lok Sabha that the term has been changed to Jammu and Kashmir in the note. He also said that the ministry had taken cognisance of the same and maintained that the entire state of Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. The matter was taken up with the US following which the media note was amended, he also said.

On June 26, the Department of State designated Syed Salahuddin, leader of the terrorist group Hizbul Mujahideen as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). The media note stated "Under Salahuddin's tenure as senior HM leader, HM has claimed responsibility for several attacks, including the April 2014 explosives attack in India-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which injured 17 people."
