New Delhi, May 7: BJP today accused Uttar Pradesh government of not being serious about tackling drought in Bundelkhand after it sought Rs 11000 crore package, saying it had failed to take any long term measure to check the perennial problem and there was huge corruption in relief works. "The government is insensitive and not serious.

Every year Bundelkhand suffers from drought. It has failed in putting in long term measures. It has a right to seek fund from the Centre but the state administration had recently noted that it had spent only 5 per cent of a previous package of Rs 850 cr.

Drought: 'UP govt not serious'

"The SP government shows a lot of keenness and promptness in putting out various advertisements about its successes which are hardly visible on ground. Had it shown some of this in tackling drought, then Bundelkhand would be in a better condition," BJP national secretary Shrikant Sharma said.

The party's criticism of the Samajwadi Party dispensation came after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav sought Rs 11000 crore drought relief package from the Centre in his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Sharma alleged that corruption has claimed a big chunk of Rs 35,000 crore package for the development of Bundelkhand announced earlier.

Alleging that the Akhilesh dispensation was favouring SP workers in relief distribution, he said, there should not be any politics in providing water and food to every person, which is government's duty.
