On Saturday, almost all in the media had declared that Manoj Sinha would be the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. The Union minister even gave several indications when he visited two major temples on Saturday morning. However, Bharatiya Janata Party sources say the name of Sinha stopped doing the rounds on Wednesday itself.

Manoj Sinha

It was the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh that felt that Sinha would not be able to deliver on both fronts-development and Hindutva. While all were confident about Sinha's administrative skills, there were doubts whether he would be able to push the Hindutva agenda hard.

Krishna Gopal, the coordinator between the RSS and BJP was against Sinha taking over as the CM. The RSS felt that he was seen as the person who tilted towards the Bhumilar caste. He would not be caste-neutral and UP could not afford such a candidate now, the RSS felt.

Apart from the RSS, both Keshav Prasad Maurya and Adityanath also opposed Sinha. Adityanath, on the other hand with the backing of the RSS went in for some hard bargaining to bag the post. The RSS was confident about Adityanath, and felt that he can push both development and Hindutva simultaneously.
