New Delhi: Formation of the Janata Dal (Secular) government is not simply a culmination of the Congress supporting the Janata Dal (Secular) to form a coalition government in the state rather it was an effort of the United opposition from behind the curtains to stop the BJP any any cost. So this time round the opposition was ready with all its ammunition and game plane which was executed without any mistake. This opposition unity has a bigger dream but will they be able to realise it or they are trying o cut more than what they can chew.

Sources said that the Congress leaders were in touch with the Left Front leaders who are having good relations with former Prime Minister H D Deve Gouda with this proposal that if any such situation emerges both the parties join hands with to form the government. Former Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was constantly in touch with H D Kumarswamy even when he had gone to Singapore immediately after the elections.

Mayawati was also in communication with Deve Gouda and she was prompt enough to castigate BJP leadership immediately after their fall. She reportedly had spoken to Sonia Gandhi immediately after the Assembly election results that she must not let this opportunity go out of Congress' hand. However, she did not even bother to take name of the Congress president Rahul Gandhi in her media address despite a pointed question towards her by taking Gandhi's name. Political analyst like Badri Narayan said that this was actually the matter of survival for all opposition so they were left with no option but unite. However, Narayan said that it is premature to say that this is the beginning of the opposition unity before 2019 elections as the contour of this unity is not yet clear as what role which party will have to play.

Left Front has been of the opinion that if there is no possibility of a nation-wide front of the anti-BJP forces then a region-wise front could also be tried to keep the BJP at bay. West Bengal chief minister Mmamata Banerjee too was involved in this and she reportedly speak to United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandi that her party must not let this opportunity go to wrest power in Karnataka with the help of any alliance to keep BJP out of power.
