Mangaluru, Feb 3: Union Law Minister, D V Sadananda Gowda (DVS) appeared cornered at his home district, Dakshina Kannada by the district unit of the BJP, including the party's parliamentary colleague.

DVS was in the city (Mangaluru) on Jan 29, Friday to lay foundation stone for an apartment developed by Rai Estate and Builders Pvt Ltd.

It is general political practice that when a union minister from the party arrives to any place, he is accompanied by the district office bearers and MP or MLA of the same party.

The situation here was otherwise, with no office bearers of the BJP attending the event participated by the union cabinet minister. Strangely, the BJP MP of the Dakshina Kannada, Nalin Kumar Kateel too skipped the grand program, despite Kateel was formally invited to the function.

The DVS on the day faced the heat of ongoing stir against materializing Yettinahole water diversion project as district unit of the BJP too expressed dissent over the project.

However the preliminary nod to the project was given by DVS, when he was serving as the chief minister of Karnataka during the erstwhile BJP government.

DVS in his recent statements opined the project of diverting the stream water would come to the aide of other parched districts of the state and project renders no harm to Dakshina Kannada. It could be recalled that MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in a statement made to a newspaper backed the Yettinahole agitation.

Kateel said he won't bow down to any political stress. "I am elected to power by the people of Dakshina Kannada and not by lobbying for the post. The prime onus is to protect the interest of the people and apprise the government on people's view," Nalin was quoted as saying in a newspaper.

The BJP in the district has joined hands with social activists those are fighting to stop the project.

Law Minister DVS speaking to OneIndia over the fresh development said the information is totally false and there is no significance attached to skipping of the program. When OneIndia insisted DVS to speak on the project, law minister disconnected the phone.

The chairman of the Rai Estate and Builders Pvt Ltd, Ashok Kumar Rai said MP Nalin Kumar had visited the site in the morning hours on the day of the program as he had a meeting to attend in Delhi. There is no political symbolism embedded to Nalin's absence, Rai informed.
