Understanding the sex scandal explosion in Kerala
A K Saseendran was the latest in the list of Kerala ministers to fall trap in a sex scandal. A minister in the ruling LDF government had to resign after a channel aired an audio clip of the minister allegedly having phone sex. This is not the first instance of a sex scam breaking out in Kerala. There have been several instances in the past, the most famous one being the ice cream parlour sex case of 1997.
In that case it was found that girls were being pushed into prostitution and the deals were struck at the ice cream parlour. Several years later, Kunhalikutty a minister of the Indian Union Muslim League an ally of the Congress quit. It was alleged by one of the girls that the minister had molested her.
Those who have covered Kerala politics say that there may be many more such incidents which have gone unreported. However there is a rise in such incidents since political parties want to take a dig at each other. The new regime in Kerala which has made all the noises against the previous Oomen Chandy government now finds itself in a spot of bother.
The new regime has been gunning for Chandy and his men over the solar scam. In that case it was alleged that Congress leaders had allegedly sought sexual favours. It was said that favours were sought from a lady called Sarita Nair to facilitate a fictitious solar plant.
The sex scams breaking out in Kerala are also very political in nature. Politicians have laid traps against rivals and leaked the same to television channels. Television channels also to compete against each other have chased such scandals in a bid to increase their television rating points. Sex scandals do run on TV and provides the needed TRPs. There have been allegations that some of the tapes are doctored by political rivals to score brownie points over their opponents.
Sex scandals are however not restricted to Kerala alone. There are perverts in other states as well. What is ironic there seems to be an age no bar angle to all these sex scandals. Take for instance the case of the 86 year old N D Tewari. He was caught on bed when he was the governor of Andhra Pradesh.
The case of H Y Meti from Karnataka is no different. At 71 he was involved in a sex scandal. Television channels aired disturbing footage of him with a woman on bed all through the day. The minister was forced to resign after giving out the random clarification that it was a trap and the footage was doctored.
The BJP too has its own share of problems. In 2012, two MLAs of the BJP from Karnataka were caught viewing porn in the assembly. A similar incident had taken place in Gujarat where 2 BJP MLAs were watching porn in the legislative assembly. In Madhya Pradesh a minister was forced to resign after allegations of him sodomising his male servant came to light.
