Uma Bharti calls Rahul Gandhi 'mentally unstable'

By Vikas

Bhopal, Aug 27: Union Minister launched a blistering attack on Rahul Gandhi for saying that the Congress had role in 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots. Bharti said that there was a time when the Congress was led by stalwarts, but today it is being led by someone "who is mentally unstable".

Rahul Gandhi, during his two-day visit to London, had told an audience of UK-based parliamentarians and local leaders in London on Friday that the incident was a "very painful tragedy", but disagreed with the view that the Congress was involved.

"What Rahul speaks and what he does was seen by all in Parliament. But what he had stated in London also stunned fellow Congressmen. Rahul's statement that the Congress was not involved in 1984 anti-Sikh riots was a blatant lie as all cases related to the riots were filed against Congress leaders. Rahul is mentally ill and I pray to the god to grant him wisdom," Bharti reportedly said.

Bharti further said, "Congress has a vast background since the era of stalwarts such as Motilal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. But today a person, who is mentally unstable, is running the party."

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Sunday came out in defence of Rahul Gandhi.

Singh said the Congress chief was in school when Operation Bluestar and later the riots took place. To blame him for 'anything' was totally absurd, said Amarinder Singh, in a hard-hitting statement issued. To hold Rahul Gandhi responsible for an act, of which he was not even aware when it happened, was completely ridiculous, said the chief minister.

Singh even said that Congress 'as a party' was was never involved in the riots that continue to haunt the Sikh community.
