UGC wants colleges to launch website to check discrimination against SC/ST students
New Delhi, March 4: To check cases of discrimination against SC/ST students, the University Grant Commission (UGC) has asked varsities and colleges across India to launch a complaint website where such incidents can be cited. This would be a part of their homepage.
This suggestion has come in the wake of uprising in HCU university where a Dalit PhD scholar Rohith Vemula committed suicide.
UGC Secretary Jaspal S Sandhu also suggested that a complaint book should be placed in the office of the registrar, if it is a university or in the principal's office in the case of a college for complaints.
He further added that prompt action should be taken against erring official or faculty members. UGC has also asked varsities to send an action-taken report on the steps taken to prevent discrimination.
