Two soldiers commit suicide in two days
There have been two suicides reported in two cases in the Indian Army. Both the incidents were reported from the Kupwara district of North Kashmir.
Naik Shankar Singh Shakhwat, of 18th Rashtriya Rifles (RR) committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Warnow area of Kupwara district in North Kashmir on Thursday.
On Wednesday Sepoy Birender Sinha, of 30 RR, committed suicide when he shot himself in his camp at Langate in Handwara of Kupwara district on Wednesday.
The inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC have begun and the postmortem has been conducted, Shamsheer Hussain, senior superintendent of police, Kupwara said.
The reason for the suicide was not immediately known.
An in-depth analysis conducted by the Army's Northern Command in 2008 has revealed that the major causes of the deaths of soldiers in suicides and fratricides are marital discord, domestic issues, medical problems and organisational reasons.
