Triple Talaq Bill to be tabled in Rajya Sabha tomorrow
New Delhi, Aug 9: Triple Talaq Bill will be introduced in Rajyya Sabha on Friday.
The Union Cabinet on Thursday, 9 August, approved an amendment to the Triple Talaq Bill, allowing the magistrate to grant bail to an accused. However, the practice of "instant triple-talaq" still a remains a non-bailable crime, ANI reported. The bill will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, 10 August.
A woman can also seek the custody of her minor children from the magistrate who will take a final call on the issue.
The provision of bail was one of the demands of the opposition parties.
The proposed law would only be applicable on instant triple talaq or 'talaq-e-biddat' and it would give power to the victim to approach a magistrate seeking "subsistence allowance" for herself and minor children.
