Tribal killed by suspected NSCN(IM) cadres in Manipur
Imphal, Aug 22: A 50-year-old tribal was killed and another injured when suspected NSCN (IM) cadres fired indiscriminately at Ngairong in Chandel district of Manipur today.
S Walunglua Aimol alias Manglun (50) was killed and Ringneised Aimol received bullet injury when suspected NSCN (IM) cadres fired in the village early this morning, police officials said.
Two grenades were also lobbed at the house of former assistant village chief S Chungosei Aimol (60) at about 4.30 am, but no harm was done to him and his family, they said, "On receiving information about the incident a police team along with Assam Rifles rushed to the spot to chase the NSCN(IM) cadres and conducted combing operation in nearby areas."
Tension has been brewing in the area for the past few days as Aimol tribals have been refusing to affiliate with the Nagas as they want to keep their independent identity in the state, police officials said.
