Traffic hold up: When Mamata made a scene for nothing, here is what really happened

There are reports that the police chief has been transferred, but government sources confirm that no such decision has been taken. She has now sent out notices to the top brass in the traffic department and has sought an explanation as to what happened on that day.

From what we can gather from our sources, it is clear that Mamata had made a big deal out of nothing. There was no need for her to step out of the car and walk. All arrangements were in place, but there was some hold up due to the sudden downpour.

A source tells OneIndia that an explanation would be given to the DG/IG of Police in which the entire incident would be narrated. There was heavy VVIP movement on the day of the swearing in ceremony. It was more important for the police to ensure that the Governor and Kumaraswamy reached the venue (Vidhan Soudha) first. Zero tolerance was given only to the convoy of the Governor's and Chief Minister's car. This meant that the convoys would pass without being stopped and the traffic would be cleared on priority for them.

However the source says that zero tolerance was not given to the rest of the VVIPs. It would have been madness if this was given to all the VVIPs as this would have brought the entire city to a standstill.

Mamata's convoy was moving smoothly, but it got stopped for less than a minute as the CM's and Governor's car had to move. Everything was as per plan, but the rains came down which become a minor stumbling block the source also said.

The incident occurred near Gate Number 1 of the Vidhan Soudha when the convoy was coming in from the Chalukya circle. The convoy had almost reached the Gate and it was hardly a minute before it would have reached the venue. However Mamata lost her cool, decided to step out of the car and walk to the venue, which was after all just a few steps.

Clearly upset with what had happened, she was seeing gesturing furiously at the police chief. She even walked up to Kumaraswamy and Deve Gowda to complain. The police chief patiently replied saying, " I am sorry madam, I will look into this."

Kumaraswamy on the next days sought for an explanation from Neelamani Raju. She has issued notices to the authorities concerned seeking an explanation in this regard.
