New Delhi, July 15: It seems the sky rocketing price of tomatoes in the market has forced the US burger chain McDonald's to stop using it in its products in north and east India.

It came as surprise to those who found tomato missing in the burgers at the certian McDonalds outlet on Thursday.

According to a notice displayed at Connaught Plaza Restaurants in Delhi, which operates McDonald's stores in northern and eastern regions of the country that the company was unable to add tomatoes in various products due to temporary unavailability. Unpredictable conditions have impacted the tomato crop, its quality and supply.

Tomato prices have soared to Rs 80-100 per kg in retail markets across the country.

"Move to stop tomatoes in its offerings was not the result of high prices but poor quality . "We are working towards resolving this issue," a spokesperson

for McDonald's India (North & East) was quoted as saying by the Times of India.

"We are making do with lettuce and onions. We are waiting for supplies to resume,"added an executive at a McDonald's outlet in central Delhi.
