The Old Mysore region is considered to be a weak bastion for the BJP. In order to boost the party's chances, Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address a rally at the Santhemarahalli town in Chamarajanagar district. The BJP hopes that Modi could better the party's chances by addressing rallies in this region.

Modi is expected to address 15 rallies in a span of five days. Today after the rally at Santhemarahalli, he would address rallies at Udupi in coastal Karnataka and Chikkodi in north Karnataka.

BJP leaders say that Modi would address a few more rallies in the old Mysore region. Currently, the battle is between the Congress and JD(S) in this region which is dominated by the Vokkaliga votes. In 2008, the Congress swept the region. It won 7 out of the 8 seats while the JD(S) ended up with one.

Out of the 8 seats, three are reserved and the BJP would look to former Nanjangud MLA, V Srinivas Prasad to consolidate the Dalit votes. Prasad is a prominent leader from the SC community who had quit the Congress and joined the BJP.

The BJP has also decided not to concentrate all its resources in one place. Yeddyurappa would be part of the first Modi rally, but will not accompany him on the rest. He along with Amit Shah would conduct road shows and rallies in other places.
