#TNElectionResults to #Verdict16: Twitter in total grip of election results

Bengaluru, May 19: These days, voters don't tune into their favourite TV news channels to get updates on politics. On Thursday morning, as the counting for the Assembly Election Results 2016 got started the tech-savvy voters of the country were busy getting election results updates on various social media platforms. And, their favourite was the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

Twitter was in total grip of the election results. Thus most of the trends on the micro-blogging site were about election results. Some of the trends devoted to elections results were #TNElectionResults, #Verdict16, #KeralaElectionResults, #BattleForTheStates, #KeralaResults, #WestBengal, #Assam, #Election 2016, #KeralaPolls2016 and #THResults, to name a few.

Along with getting updates on which political party was leading in which state, it was the images shared on Twitter that were really eye-catching.

Some of the best images of Indian democracy could be viewed only on Twitter on a day when fate of several leaders would be sealed in four states (Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala) and one union territory (Puducherry).

The photograph of a man standing with a flower bouquet and police force guarding the locality in Tamil Nadu gave us a contrasting sense of election euphoria and security. Similarly, women supporters of TMC in West Bengal coming together to celebrate the early leads of the party also made an evocative image.
