On the heels of expelled Trinamool Congress leader Mukul Roy's allegations, TMC Youth leader Abhishek Banerjee has sent a legal notice to Roy demanding an unconditional apology within 48 hours, failing which legal action would be taken against him.

Incidentally, Mukul Roy in his first ever public address as a BJP leader on November 10 had alleged that the "Biswa Bangla" is not a Government enterprise but is owned by Abhishek Banerjee. Along with this Roy also claimed that the "Jago Bangla" newspaper, the mouthpiece of the TMC was also owned by Abhishek Banerjee.

The State Government had immediately refuted the allegations regarding the Biswa Bangla stating that the company, brand and the logo "Biswa Bangla" is solely owned by the Government of West Bengal.

The notice sent to the BJP headquarters in Kolkata stated that Roy should abstain from making and circulating derogatory statements.

The notice stated that the remarks made by Roy in regard to "Biswa Bangla" and "Jago Bangla" are false. The notice demanded an unconditional apology from Roy within 48 hours failing which civil and criminal defamation suits would be filed against Roy.

The notice claimed that the remarks were deliberately made to defame Banerjee. "In the event the aforesaid action as caked upon in the instant letter is not taken, within the period mentioned, our client would be constrained to initiate strong action, both civil and criminal, against you" stated the legal notice sent to Roy.

Roy's counsel reportedly stated that they would counter the same "legally" thereby negating any chance of a "unconditional apology."

Banerjee is a TMC Lok Sabha MP and the nephew of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

On Monday the Youth TMC held a public rally at Rani Rashmoni Avenue, Kolkata, the same venue from where the BJP and Mukul Roy had made the allegations in a similar rally on November 10.
