Karnataka Budget 2017: Tipplers laugh all the way to the bar, Alcohol to be cheaper

Tipplers in Karnataka have happy hours ahead. Alcohol is set to become cheaper in the state according to the Karnataka budget. The 2017-18 budget announced by state Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that value added tax or VAT on liquor will be removed from April 1 onwards.

Alcohol to be cheaper in Karnataka

In the budget, Siddharamaiah, who is also the finance minister of Karnataka, announced that VAT would not be applicable on wine, beer and hard liquor. "The VAT has been lifted on liquor," Siddaramaiah announced. He said that the administrative fee of Rs 2 per litre on export and Rs 1 per litre on spirit excluding ethanol is proposed to be withdrawn.

This would be the last budget as the state goes to polls in 2018. Many have termed it by Siddaramaiah as an election budget as several sops have been announced across various sectors.
